Description
This is a work-in-progress for a project I'm working on for school. This is not the full size actually, I only photographed 2/3 of the whole thing. But it's one hell of a job! I made it to big! At first I thought I would color this in no time, but aah... schijn bedriegt, ontzettend! >__<
Further details about this schoolassignment: the goal was to make an image of a poem. We've got a list with several poems you could choose of or you could search for one yourself and show it to the teacher for approval. And of course with my little obsession of Japan, I decided to choose a haiku. To be more exact, a haiku of Matsuo Bashõ (松尾 芭蕉?, 1644 – November 28, 1694):
''furu ike ya
kawazu tobikomu
mizu no oto''
English translation: an ancient pond / a frog jumps in / the splash of water [1686]
So I decided to draw a nice japanese garden with a little stream/pond (whatever you'd call it) as main point of the painting, and the frog... he still has to be drawn, but it's so incredibly HARD to draw frogs! Absolutely, I've redone the frog for more then 10 times, and I have erased 'm again...
the frog'll have to wait!
~~
Size: 7 feet x 1.64 feet
Wooden frame, drawn on 100% cotton
Lines done with Faber Castell PITT ARTIST warmgray brush
Colored with ecoline and indian ink
Haiku by Matsuo Bashõ
